If you’ve been wearing suits for a while and have the basics covered, you are ready to move on to the advanced level. This means you are ready to experiment with patterns cuts and even extra pieces. Here are the suits that will round you out sartorially and have you covered for any occasion.

Three Piece Suit
The three piece suit has been around for a long time, and actually used to be the standard when ordering a suit. Over time, the vest grew out of fashion and suits evolved into the two pieces we know today. But people are starting to re-discover the vest again, which should also be looked at as a separate piece that can be worn independently of the suit, it can be worn alone with the suit pants and shirt and tie or pair it with jeans or casual trousers.

TIP: The beauty of custom tailoring is that you can think outside the box. The vest of a 3 piece suit does not have to match exactly. You can create an amazing suit by having the vest made in the same fabric but a shade lighter or darker, or in a solid if the suit fabric is patterned.

Pattern Suit
Prince of Wales, Houndstooth, Birdseye, Herringbone, Windowpane–there’s a plethora of classic menswear patterns for you to choose from when you’re ready to move to the next level of of sartorial evolution. It’s always good to consult with your Professional Clothier to help you navigate through the patterns to help you pick the best options for you.

TIP: Besides their pattern, most fabrics have a color running through them as well, and this is a good place to start for coordinating shirts and ties for the look. Also, when selecting fabrics, try to look at them in natural light as that’s where you can see their true color.

Double Breasted Suit
Nothing is as chic as the double breasted suit. Recently, it has also been showing up on the runways of Europe and is definitely a must-add to the wardrobe of the well-dressed man. As we have already touched on in past posts, the double breasted jacket, or DB, has also become extremely popular. You can wear the jacket with jeans or khakis to create an “upper casual” look.

TIP: Because of the way it’s cut the DB does not look flattering un-buttoned, if you are going to rock this look, make sure you keep buttoned up, but you should be doing that anyway.

Tuxedo
Nothing is as luxurious as a custom tuxedo. You’ll feel like a million bucks every time you put it on. Body fabric, lapel fabric, lapel shape–there are a lot more choices than you think when ordering this so again, it helps to have a Professional Clothier guide you through the process.

TIP: A tuxedo does not have to be black. The Duke of Windsor, one of the best dressed men who ever lived, only wore midnight blue tuxedos and said that in the evening, it appeared to be blacker than black.

Whether you have a special event or are looking to expand your suit wardrobe, your Professional Clothier can help you navigate every single sartorial option made available to you through our extensive range of fabrics, cuts, and stye details.  And with our current Friends & Family End of Season Suit Sale, there’s no better time to bring your suit wardrobe to the forefront of style.
