The designers have decided that the ideal trend for the new season are the soft shades, and suddenly blue has become a star in the fashion world; not all blues, though… but the pastels… the light ones… the shades that include “something else” like the sky blue… the ones with flashes of steel and the ones called ice blue. For me the latter is indispensable because it sends an elegant as well as a bold message.

I wear blue all the time because I think that it can be romantic as well as dramatic... sensual as well as bold... and I love it when every now and then the color blue is super sexy. The secret is in the style of the dress or outfit, how the designers use the various shades and, especially, in the fit.

In spite of the intense cold winter weather, it is charming that the designers would think of a soft blue, and would use it brilliantly to create a modern style that is also sophisticated and glamorous. And, no matter what your plans are… a grand gala… a more intimate party or a fabulous night at the club, you will always find a spectacular design in any shade of this marvelous color.

A very popular trend at Rex Fabrics is to use black lace over soft tones to create a look very much in style. And when sky blue is the chosen color, the result is simply an ode to femininity.

Do you want to look dramatic and, at the same time, elegant? Or perhaps you prefer a more subtle design... less complicated? Then think of beautiful brocades, now in various shades of blue. Another delicious option is embroidered lace, which looks very striking with yards and yards of tulle to match.

We have many options… it all depends on our mood... and how we want to look on that special night: subdued, sensual or dramatic. On the other hand, do not be afraid of plunging necklines, bare legs or showing parts of the anatomy. The designers have been very meticulous when creating these dresses to achieve a very bold look that is elegant... although very, very sexy.

Another option is a multi-layered chiffon dress in the most romantic pastel blue with some details embroidered with beads and sequins. This is what Russian designer VALENTIN YUDASHKIN exposed, and with great success, in the most recent collections. His designs are embroidered at the waist.

BADGLEY MISCHKA is a label that specializes in P.M. fashion and for this season they have launched exquisite strapless dresses with embroidered tops, and straight skirts with many layers, achieving great elegance and chic.

ALEXIS MABILLE likes to create important fashions that allow us to make the triumphal entries women so love much, and this season he exhibited dresses combining brocades and satin with great taste. As an additional delight, these are paired with knee-length capes and a great big bow as the closure in a more intense shade. Bravo!

ELIE SAAB opted for romance and sensuality, and his wide-skirted gala dresses exhibit the most beautiful of embroideries, leaning in particular towards ice blue. While ZUHAIR MURAD had in mind the movie stars who walk the red carpet wearing his designs, this time he exhibited embroidered dresses in beads and sequins with tulle layers over the dress to create a bold yet elegant style.

And ALEXANDRE VAUTHIER receives applause for his dresses showing a very low V neckline, all delicately embroidered in a darker tone of blue, to wear with skirts accented with feathers, a very romantic touch, and in the most beautiful blues seen on the runways. They are ideal for women who are tall, thin, and very sure of themselves… that can carry with graceful bearing a real symphony in blue.
