Calling all creatives and activists, it’s your time to shine in the community and flex your creativity. The CDC and Government Officials have advised everyone stepping out of their homes to use masks, scarves, or handkerchiefs when outdoors or entering public spaces. Let’s do our part and make sure that Surgical Masks, KN95 and N95 Masks continue to be reserved for the use of healthcare workers and other medical first responders. In looking to the best interest of our respective communities and in solidarity with fighting COVID19, let’s make every stitch count! Take action in keeping your loved ones safe and don’t forget the everyday heroes of your community mailmen and sanitation workers. Make one, Donate one, Sell one. We all win!

Below you will find my favorite patterns and tutorials for easy to make masks at home for both sew and non-sew options. Please note, these masks are intended to be distributed and used primarily for everyday extraordinary people like you and I. We are only providing this for informational purposes and are not responsible for the quality of masks you make. We do not assume responsibility for the effectiveness of the masks in filtering bacteria or infection from any virus. *It should be noted we have no affiliation with the following content creators, we’re just fans, spreading knowledge.
A few things to consider before you start, the masks should be made of tightly woven, washable materials. The higher the thread count, the better. Get creative with the materials you find around your house. Repurpose ribbons, elastics, shoelaces, clothes, shoe/purse duster bags, handkerchiefs. Consider supporting your favorite local family business, Rex Fabrics and place an order with us from our extensive catalog, look for Sunbrella or 100% cotton poplin, broadcloth or twill options. Not only is Rex Fabrics your one-stop shop for exclusive couture fabrics, but we also offer an extensive selection of elastics, ribbons, and children’s cotton prints readily available through customer service or phone order. This way you shop small, help your local fabric store while protecting yourself, loved ones, and the community!
