Latin American women is elegant, cheerful, and very special. She knows how to dress like no other and although she follows the latest trends, she does it with care, because, although, she has no fear to explore the new options of fashion, she only chooses what really goes well with her. As is normal, a group of designers, all with our roots, perfectly know what truly favors her, what truly works with her work style, and what she really likes. Like a gift in each season, they offer us a fashion that we can describe as “a taste of my soul”... Yes, like the old Cuban song! Fashion that our essence carries, it knows how to bring out our silhouette with elegance, and it uses all of those colors of great sophistication that we so much like: red, intense blue, black...
They come from different nations of our continent... Venezuela, Cuba, Santo Domingo, Colombia and Brazil. But they all have the same vision: a young fashion, full of vitality, cheerful, sensual, fun and that speaks about who and how we are. Some rather simplicity... others adore fantasy...yet all, absolutely all, possess a style that is a song to our women. And why not?
One of my favorite designers is the Venezuelan ANGEL SANCHEZ. Besides being a personal charm, he possesses an incredible talent, and he plays with the good cuts to achieve a modern style, maybe a bit architectural, yet very sensual. His evening gowns are elegant, in modern colors and always emphasizing the curves.
CAROLINA HERRERA knows what the women of class needs, and she puts together colors with great taste. Here evening designs are of great chic and in the new season she had a preference for the combination of red with fuchsia in soiree gowns of low neckline and three quarter sleeves, which make them ideal for any age.
The Dominican OSCAR DE LA RENTA always offers spectacular designs in extraordinary textures and favorable and sensual cuts. He now explores prints, and his are regal, opulent, of great luxury, putting together red, blue, orange and white colors in order to create a great dramatic look.
The Cuban NARCISO RODRIGUEZ prefers a more simple, cool and energetic style, like when he uses black satin for his party black dresses, which are shorter in the front than in the back, in order to show the legs and create a younger result.
JUAN CARLOS OBANDO is a designer from Barranquilla, who has been displaying in New York since several seasons, and us fashion journalists have lost our mind for his simple, innovative and sensual style. He likes to put together bright colors, like when he puts together a pleated skirt in an intense turquoise with a mauve chiffon blouse tied to one side. And of course, my good friend CARLOS MIELE, offers us fashion at the rhythm of Samba, with exquisite drapes in bright colors like red, and with a cut that delineates the curves with great taste. Isn’t it of great happiness having been born a woman?
